View Full Version : 3 different headers in same word document

Hi all,
It really drives me mad!

I need to use 3 types of headers in the same word document
1) first page header
2) following pages header (these 2 types are in one section with continuous page_number / total pages)
3) different headers for appendixs (starts from page 1)

I tried to make 2 sections in this document [sorry, I am not sure if this is the correct terminology], but whenever I make any change in the header in section 2, it jumps to the header in section 1 and modifies it as well.

I would appreciate very much if you can help
Eli

Hi, Eli!

There s a *same as previous* button on the header/footer toolbar. When ever you want to change THIS header and NOT the previous one, you need to turn that OFF (it s a toggle).

Section 2 *may* be set up to also have a different first page. You do NOT want this. Go to section 2 and hit File-Page setup-Layout tab and remove that checkmark for *this section only* or *this point forward*. THEN remove the same as previous.

Let me know if you have problems.

Thank you very much Dreamboat for your full & comprehensive answer.
Yet is there a way to handle total pages of the 2 sections automatically and independently? eg ../5 for first section and ../3 for second section in a document of 8 pages.
Regards
Eli

I m not sure I understand your question, eli.

If you have:

inserted next-page section breaks
removed *different first page* from 2nd section
turned same as previous off on all sections

you should now have:

Page 1 header
Remaining section 1 header
Section 2 header

This should provide the capability of 3 different headings.

If you only need two different headings, then remove the *different first page* option in section 1 also.

Make sense?
