how can i remove carriage returns

I copied and pasted an extremely large text file into Word and it contains carriage returns at the end of a lot of lines that I need to remove - is there a quick and easy way to remove all of the carriage returns in a given selection of text, while leaving the carriage returns in the areas that I do not highlight or select?

never mind, i found the special character for a carriage return - ^p
