I have recently updated from Office 95 to Office 2000 Pro, and also Word 2002, as I had received that with my newer computer that came with Works 2002 and Word 2002, the latter of which I liked very much. However, when I loaded Office 2002, it deleted Office 95 and Word 2002.

When I reloaded Work 2002, I began to have serious problems with my computer - extremely slow with just about everything, including the Boot process. It turned out the problem was a file OSA.exe that was loaded with Word 2002, and it used 98% of the CPU capacity resulting in the slow actions.

I have eliminated tha probelm by disabling it, but would like to know what it does and if I can "safely" work without it.

Word and my other applications seem to run smoothly, so far, but I would like advice.

When I Googled osa.exe, this is one of the sites I got:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290144/EN-US/

Other sites call it a resource hog which can be removed.

Thanks much, Redbeard, for your response to my problem. I printed out the text of the link you provided, and it answers my questions - primarily that of what OSA.exe does for me - (nothing but trouble)..

Strangely, it is there apparently to enhance Office XP, something I do not have, as I inherited it with Word 2002 that came with Dell's bundled Works 2002.

In any case, I now know I can just get rid of it without any harm to my operation.

Thanks, again

Jack
