wonder if any body has seen this before - I have a friend with a teenager at school
she came to me today with a floppy disk with several files on all but 1 are fine after scanning the disk for virus and finding none I open the bad file - the Header was fine the footer was fine but the body of the text appeared to be in the font Wingdings 2 - when I selelcted the text to change the font to TNR, Ariel, Comic Sans - just about everything font, it changed to look like boxes or little lines but nothing resembaling anthing readable. Unfortunately it is a 12 page document for her GCSE exams - any help with this would be much very appreciated.

Try to open the file as "recover text from any file". When you go to open the file through Word, one of the file types listed on the drop down menu that says "Files of Type" is the recover text option. If this does not work, try to open as RTF file, and finally if nothing has worked, as a text file. Each of the last two file types gives you less and less formatting but the text should be rescued.

Throw out that diskette. That may be the source of the problem.

Good luck

Fred
