View Full Version : Highlighting a range
I have Excel 2000, v9.0.2720. I recently cleaned up my hard drive and defrag d. Since then (coinsidence?), whenever I attempt to highlight a range by depressing the shift key, and using the arrows, there is an immediate message that this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown . However, I can highlight by clicking the mouse and dragging. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks -- WTL

Hey there, WTL!! Glad to see you made it!
Here goes and now you ll understand why I didn t want to have you writing this down over the phone:
Close Excel.
Hit Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter.
Browse to:
hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftoffice9.0excel
Right-click and rename the excel folder to OldExcel and hit Enter.
Re-launch Excel.
Lemme know how it goes!

Okay. Have you tried Detect and Repair under the Help menu right in Excel?

This kind of error can only be solved by a reinstallation of Excel (AFAIK).
